2027 Senate Presidency: Wike, Akpabio's Secret Plot To Block Uzodimma Uncovered

By Emmanuel Kabayo

The race for the 2027 Senate Presidency is heating up, with fresh facts emerging about an alleged secret plot to stop Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, from making it to the Red Chamber.

Exclusive information obtained by this paper has revealed how the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, are reportedly pulling strings behind the scenes to frustrate Uzodimma's rumoured senatorial ambition and his long-term interest in the Senate Presidency.

Sources within the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, disclosed that the move is part of a larger political chess game ahead of the 2027 general elections, with control of the South-East and South-South caucuses in the Senate at stake.

According to one top party insider who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorized to speak, the plot is to ensure Uzodimma does not secure the APC senatorial ticket in Imo.

"There is a clear understanding among some powerful forces that Uzodimma should not be allowed to get to the Senate. They believe he is too ambitious and if he becomes Senator, he will automatically want to be Senate President. That is what Wike and Akpabio are trying to prevent," the source alleged.

Another source claimed that meetings have been held in Abuja where alternative candidates from Imo West were considered as options to block Uzodimma's path.

The source added that Wike's interest is allegedly linked to his desire to maintain influence in the South-South and South-East, while Akpabio is said to be keen on retaining his seat as Senate President beyond 2027.

"Wike wants a Senate where his loyalists will dominate, and Akpabio wants to return. Uzodimma's entry would disrupt both plans," another insider alleged.

However, when contacted, sources close to both Wike and Akpabio dismissed the claims as mere political rumours, insisting that both leaders are focused on governance and have no reason to oppose Uzodimma.

Governor Uzodimma, who is serving his second term as Imo State Governor, is yet to officially declare any intention to run for Senate in 2027.

Political observers say the development, if true, signals an early battle for the soul of the APC and the leadership of the 11th National Assembly.

As the 2027 political season draws closer, analysts believe more of such high-wire intrigues will emerge, especially among ranking members and former governors eyeing the Senate.
