Okoroagu community came to a standstill on Saturday, August 29, 2026, as Late Madam Jemimah Nwagor Nweke, 70, was laid to rest amid an overwhelming show of love, solidarity, and political unity.
The late matriarch was the mother of Hon. Charles Alozie Nweke, Leader of the Rainbow Coalition in Okoroagu, and grandmother to Hon. Faith Ijeoma Obele, Vice Chairman of Etche Local Government Area.
The burial drew a massive convergence of political juggernauts from across Rivers State who came to identify with the Nweke family and honour the memory of a woman described as a pillar of faith, unity, and service.
Leading the government delegation, the Executive Chairman of Etche LGA, Chief Hon. Chima Boniface Njoku, joined family members, friends, and political associates to pay his last respects. The Council boss and his entourage are also prominent members of both the Rainbow Coalition and the City Boy Movement.
He was accompanied by Hon. Reginald Onwuka, PDP Chairman, Etche LGA; Dr. Engr. Fortune Obi, Coordinator, City Boy Movement, Etche LGA; Chief Kelly Bini, Coordinator, STYMM South-South; Engr. J. C. Bright; Engr. Sampson Ngeregbara, Former Commissioner for Works and Housing, Rivers State; Hon. Morgan Nwaobilor, Former Chief of Staff, Etche LGA; Hon. Emeka Nnadozie, Former Commissioner of Empowerment and Employment Generation, Rivers State; Hon. Oye Igniwari, Former Chairman of Abua/Odua LGA; Engr. Chijioke Peters, Council Secretary; and other political appointees of the Council.
Other political juggernauts present included:
Chief Sen. Heacho Alwell Onyesoh, Distinguished Senator representing Rivers East Senatorial District; Hon. Chimezie Christian Nwankwo, Member representing Etche Constituency 2 in the Rivers State House of Assembly; Hon. Barr. Jerome Okere, DG, Sen. Onyesoh’s Political Group; Bishop Dr. Alex Igwe, President, Aluu Elites; Chief Loveday Okere; His Royal Highness Eze Jeremiah Worenwu, The Nyeweli Iriebe; Community Chief Samuel Iroegbu, Councillor; Chief Hon. Choko Chibuike of Etche Ward 6, alongside his brother and friend, High Chief Williams Adiele; Hon. Iheanyichukwu Iroegbu, aka Paparazi; Chief Ogbueke I of Opiro, among other political associates and well-wishers.
Describing the Chairman’s presence, an aide noted that it was a clear demonstration of his respect for the bereaved family and his commitment to stand with members of his administration and the wider Etche community in moments of joy and sorrow.
In his condolence message, Chairman Njoku prayed that God Almighty grants the family the fortitude to bear the loss and grants the soul of Late Mrs. Jemimah Nwagor Nweke eternal rest.
The burial also witnessed a massive turnout of the Rainbow Coalition/Renewed Hope family, who dominated the ceremony in support of Hon. Faith Ijeoma Obele and Hon. Charles Nweke.
Speaking shortly after the burial, family relative Charles Ukaegbu, Esq., eulogized the deceased as a “total woman” and devoted Christian who treated every relation as her own child.
“Madam Jemimah lived a fulfilled life as a community leader. She was selfless, loving, and caring. The community will greatly miss her,” he said, while urging her children to emulate her worthy footsteps.
Late Madam Jemimah Nwagor Nweke was remembered as a pillar of faith, unity, and service whose legacy will continue to inspire the Okoroagu community and Etche LGA at large.
She has since been laid to rest at her family compound in Okoroagu.
